The Story
The castle is in turmoil, fear & trepidation are everywhere because the King is returning from his pilgrimage & he has sent Harold the Herald on ahead to summons his closest friends to a meeting of grave consequence.
What can this mean? What rumours has he heard whist away?
Those summonsed to attend include the King's wife, Queen Eleanor the Eveready. She has been carrying on with Chester the Jester ( from Chester ) & both know that their days are numbered should word get to the King.
Matilda of Bakewell, "the tart with a heart" is looking forward to seeing more of the King upon his return, whilst Sir William Shortledger, known as Bill, keeps the castle books but fears the King's audit.
Despite their turmoil, all are gathered as the King enters the castle.
Upon welcoming all, the King proceeds with the meeting that will decide the fate of those present, but before he can finish, death rears its ugly head.
Who is the murderer? All must be revealed & to assist with the investigation will be Brother Cannotfael. He is the King's Chaplin & with his help the crime will be solved.
