Murder Mystery in Dorset at the Blandford Corn Exchange

We will be at the Blandford Corn Exchange on Saturday June 27th with The Great Flatsby, a 1940s Gatsby themed script.

The Blandford Corn Exchange

The Blandford Corn Exchange, part of the Grade I listed Town Hall complex in Blandford Forum, Dorset, is one of the most significant buildings in the town’s Georgian market centre. The Town Hall was originally constructed in 1734 by the local master-builders John and William Bastard following the Great Fire of Blandford in 1731, which devastated much of the town. Built of Portland stone and signed, rather wonderfully, “Bastard, Architect,” the Town Hall’s grand façade forms a focal point in the Market Place, described as one of the best-preserved Georgian townscapes in England

The Corn Exchange itself was added in 1858–1859, connected to the Town Hall by a single-storey extension. Its large hall served as a trading floor for local agriculture and later as a public assembly space, theatre, and community venue. Over the years, it has hosted markets, concerts, civic meetings, and social events, remaining a cultural centre of the town for nearly three centuries. After decades of deterioration, a major refurbishment project, approved in 2023, aims to restore the entire complex, preserving its historical character while revitalising it as a vibrant multi-purpose venue for future generations.
